What it fixes

10 kinds of mistakes in one check

The checker reads each sentence as a whole, so it catches the errors a word-by-word spell checker misses: a verb that does not agree with its subject, a missing comma before "but", "their" where you meant "there". Each fix is labelled as spelling, grammar, punctuation or style.

A checker that knows when to stop

Most AI checkers treat every text as a draft to rewrite. Ours fixes what is wrong and leaves the rest alone, so the result still sounds like you.

Your voice stays yours

Fix mistakes changes only real errors. It does not swap your words for synonyms, merge sentences or make you sound more formal.

No invented edits

If your text is already correct, you see "No mistakes found" instead of changes made for the sake of change. Check it again and the answer stays the same.

Every fix explained

Click any fix to see the rule behind it in one sentence. Undo the ones you disagree with; Copy takes only the fixes you keep.

Links and code untouched

URLs, email addresses, code, {{variables}}, @mentions and #hashtags come back exactly as you wrote them, and no long dashes are added to English text.

Overview

Why use our grammar checker?

Most grammar checkers either flag hundreds of things at once or quietly rewrite your text into something that no longer sounds like you. Ours does neither. It is a grammar checker, spell checker and punctuation checker in one, and in the default Fix mistakes mode it corrects spelling, grammar and punctuation and leaves your wording, rhythm and tone exactly as they were. If there is nothing to fix, it says so.
Every correction is highlighted next to your original. Click one to see the rule behind it, undo the ones you disagree with, and copy a clean text with only the fixes you kept. Switch to Natural phrasing when you write in a second language and want awkward phrases to sound native. Links, code and template variables are never touched, long documents are checked paragraph by paragraph, and it all works in 30 languages, free and without sign-up.

Background

What is a grammar checker?

A grammar checker is a tool that finds and corrects mistakes in written text: spelling errors and typos, grammar errors such as wrong verb forms or subject-verb agreement, and punctuation errors such as missing commas or misplaced apostrophes. A classic spell checker compares single words with a dictionary; an AI grammar checker reads whole sentences, so it also catches correctly spelled words used in the wrong place and errors that depend on context. A good grammar checker fixes what is wrong without changing what you meant or how you say it.
01

Two modes: fix mistakes or sound natural

Fix mistakes is a proofreader: it corrects spelling, grammar, punctuation and capitalisation and nothing else, so a correct sentence stays exactly as you wrote it. Natural phrasing also rewords phrases that are correct but sound foreign, which helps when English or another language is not your first. Even then it changes as few words as possible and keeps your vocabulary, sentence order and register.
02

See why each fix was made, and undo it

Corrections are marked in four colours: spelling, grammar, punctuation and style. Click any of them to see the original, the fix and a one-sentence explanation of the rule, written in the language of this page. Undo a fix with one click, or undo all fixes of one type at once. Show originals puts your old words next to the new ones, and Copy takes the text with only the fixes you kept, so you learn the rule instead of just accepting the result.
03

Style notes that never touch your text

Under the result you also get style notes: a word repeated in neighbouring sentences, a sentence longer than 35 words, several sentences in a row that start the same way, and in English, filler words such as "really" and "basically" and phrases that make writing sound machine-made. They are suggestions only. The checker never rewrites your style behind your back.
04

Long texts and 30 languages

Paste up to 10,000 characters, about 1,600 words, at once. Long texts are checked in parts of a few paragraphs, so every paragraph gets the same attention and comes back in its place. The checker recognises the language of your text and applies its own rules for spelling and punctuation in English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Ukrainian, Polish, Japanese and 22 more languages.
05

Who uses our grammar checker

  • Students. Proofread essays, reports and theses without the checker rewriting arguments into something that sounds generated.
  • People writing in a second language. Fix mistakes first, then try Natural phrasing to see how a native speaker would put the same idea, with the reason for each change.
  • Professionals. Check emails, proposals and reports before you send them, and keep your own tone.
  • Writers and bloggers. Catch typos and punctuation in drafts while dialogue, fragments and present-tense narration stay as you meant them.
  • Developers and marketers. Proofread docs, release notes and prompts with links, code and {{variables}} left exactly in place.
FAQ

Questions, answered

An AI grammar checker is a tool that reads your text sentence by sentence and corrects spelling, grammar and punctuation mistakes. Unlike a dictionary-based spell checker, it understands context, so it can fix "their" used instead of "there" or a verb that does not agree with its subject.

Paste your text into the box, choose Fix mistakes or Natural phrasing and press Check grammar. Corrections appear highlighted next to your original. Click any of them to see why it was made or to undo it, then copy the corrected text.

Yes. The NeuralWriter grammar checker is completely free, with no sign-up, no subscription and no credit card. Both modes, explanations, undo and style notes are included, up to 10,000 characters per check.

Yes. Paste a single sentence, an email or a whole essay. Short texts are checked in seconds, and a sentence that is already correct comes back unchanged with "No mistakes found", so you know you can send it as it is.

Yes. Every check covers spelling, grammar and punctuation together: typos, capital letters, commas, apostrophes, quotation marks and spacing. Each fix is labelled with its type, and you can show only spelling or only punctuation fixes with the filters under the result.

Not in the Fix mistakes mode. It corrects only real errors and leaves correct sentences exactly as you wrote them, with the same words, rhythm and tone. Natural phrasing rewords awkward phrases too, but changes as few words as possible.

You see "No mistakes found" and your text stays unchanged. The checker does not invent edits to look useful, and checking the same correct text again gives the same answer.

Every correction is highlighted in the result. Click or tap one to see the original words, the fix and a one-sentence explanation of the rule. Show originals displays your old words next to the new ones, and the counters show how many spelling, grammar, punctuation and style fixes were made.

Yes. Click a fix and choose Undo fix, or use Undo all to reject every fix of the selected type. Undone fixes stay marked, so you can restore them, and Copy takes only the corrections you kept.

Fix mistakes only corrects errors, so your sentences, word choice and rhythm stay yours. The checker never adds long dashes to English text or swaps your words for stock phrases. No tool can promise how a particular AI detector will score a text, so if it matters, check the result with our AI detector.

No. Links, email addresses, inline code and code blocks, {{variables}}, @mentions and #hashtags are protected before the check and come back character for character. If an answer loses any of them, it is rejected and the check runs again.

Grammar, spelling and punctuation in 30 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Ukrainian, Turkish, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. The checker recognises the language of your text automatically and applies its rules, so there is nothing to set.

Up to 10,000 characters per check, about 1,600 words. Longer texts are checked in parts of a few paragraphs, so every paragraph is checked and returned in its place. For a longer document, check it section by section.

Yes, if it tells you why. Each fix comes with the rule behind it, and the style notes point out repeated words, very long sentences and filler words, so you notice your own patterns and make fewer of the same mistakes next time.

Your text is used only to check it and is deleted automatically within 24 hours. It is never published, sold or added to any database, and you do not need an account.

A grammar checker fixes mistakes and keeps your wording. A paraphrasing tool rewrites the text in new words. Use the grammar checker to clean up errors, and the paraphraser when you want to say the same thing differently.

The best grammar checker is the one that fixes your mistakes without rewriting your voice. NeuralWriter explains every fix, lets you undo any of them, says when there is nothing to fix and leaves links and code intact, free, without sign-up, in 30 languages.
